Colossians 1:28 has often been a theme verse for Ridgewood because we want to see all of our members and children “presented mature in Christ.” This year, the pastor’s are praying for MORE: more holiness, more love, and more quiet faithfulness (1 Thessalonians 4:1–12). But how do we expect this to happen?
1 Timothy 4:7–8 proclaims, “Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” We must discipline ourselves to see “more” happen.
Hebrews 12:14 says, “Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” We must strive to see more love and more holiness.
Donald Whitney, author of Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life, says, “We aren’t merely to wait for holiness; we’re to pursue it.”
Over recent equip classes, we have covered two key spiritual disciplines or ordinary means of grace: Bible intake and prayer. This semester, we will turn to consider other ordinary means of grace.
We are calling this “Maturing in Christ.” We are going to spend the first week considering how we all learn and grow. We especially want to think about all the information and resources that we intake. From there, we are will turn to some practical spiritual disciplines.
